Trinity

“The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life.” (CCC 234)

What is the Trinity?

The simplest definition of the Trinity is “Three persons in one God” (CCC 253). This definition highlights the two characteristics of person and unity. But there is an important characteristic that is missing which is that “God is Love” (1 Jn 4:16) and this is directly connected to the relationships within the Trinity. First we will explore the first two characteristics, person and unity (the simple definition of “Three persons in one God” only covers two characteristics, person and unity) and then we will explore the most important which is love.
